Communicates effectively in oral and written formats
Artifact: Case Study for EDCI 672, Advanced Learning Systems Design
One of the last classes in this program, Advanced Learning Systems Design, turned out to be the most intriguing and useful. Each week, I analyzed a case study that required me to apply all of the skills learned over the last 18 months. I found the first few case studies difficult, even though they were enjoyable, and my writing was not as focused as I’d like. I appreciated the opportunity to practice organizing and explaining my instructional design solutions, and the artifact shows the results of that practice.
Demonstrates the ability to adapt instruction and assessment techniques to the needs of diverse learners
Artifact: Instructional Videos
My classroom includes a large number of English learners and several students with IEPs, and a low average socio-economic status; 100% of our students qualify for the Federal Free/Reduced Lunch Program.
In order to address the needs of all learners, I have employed a number of strategies to allow students to work at an appropriate pace and access materials in various formats. When it was time for my students’ first school-wide academic exhibition in December 2013, I created several instructional videos that students could access along with written instructions. My students who struggle with literacy appreciated the videos that communicated information clearly. Of course, I may have started a time-consuming pattern, as so many students have asked me to make videos for every assignment!
Effectively communicates content through the design and delivery of teaching/learning activities that integrate content and pedagogy
Artifact: Classroom Snapshot
“Interactive Classrooms” shows several scenes from my classroom, highlighting differentiation through technology use. I created this video in 2011 for a school presentation showcasing our work for the Board of Trustees.
Adapting instruction and assessment is an ongoing process. My current opportunity for growth is to improve my support of students with low cognitive processing and slow reading fluency while still challenging high-achieving students.
